Michael Matz
Date of Birth: January 23, 1951
Since first riding for the USET in 1973, Michael Matz has achieved as much success internationally as he has in this country. A veteran of the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, Matz has also ridden in three World Championships, where he has won a Team Gold Medal, and Team and Individual Bronze Medals. The 1981 Volvo World Cup Champion, he has also won six Pan-American Games Medals, including the Gold. In 1996 he was a member of the Silver Medal Team at the Atlanta Games.
With all his riding accomplishments, Matz received unprecedented notoriety when he (and his soon-to-be-bride D.D. Alexander) survived the crash of United Airlines Flight 232 in Sioux City, Iowa in 1989. Matz was named ABC-TV's "Man of the Week" for helping save the live of two young children on the plane. Less than two weeks later he won the $75,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix.

Morris also served as a Director of the former USET, and as a member of its Executive and Show Jumping Committees. Morris' training successes include a "Who's Who" of the United States' top show 8 jumping riders figuring prominently in Olympic history. |

LEXINGTON, KY. - George H. Morris of Pittstown, N.J. will become the new Chef d'Equipe for the United States Show Jumping Team. Morris was selected by the seven member USEF Search Committee after the search process began last September upon the retirement of Frank Chapot, who had served as U.S. Chef d'Equipe for 24 years. "I'm looking forward to developing a comprehensive program for international horses and riders.
